Jobs in the ICT Sector

I was given an assessment to create a presentation to my class on 3 jobs in the IT sector. When preparing for this presentation I had to do a lot of research for each job that I have chosen. This research consisted of me searching up jobs in the ICT sector, picking all of the jobs that seemed important to me and what those jobs consisted of. These jobs were a Software Developer; an IT consultant and a Business Analyst. I then printed out all of the research and began to highlight key points I wanted to include in my presentation. Then I began to create my PowerPoint; I began by adding key information; such as what the job entails, the qualifications needed and the skills and qualities needed to pursue that certain job. Each slide has speaker notes; I have used speaker notes because they help me as I go through my presentation, they show me the key points on what to say. Then I just changed the background of my slides to make them more appealing to my audience. Finally I added pictures into the presentation to make it more interesting. I have added photos to keep my audience engaged in the presentation, also the photos I have added referring to the jobs I have picked. I introduced my presentation with my introduction slide, then went onto to present my other slides on the jobs that I have chosen. I talked about what the job role was, the qualifications needed and the skills and qualities that I have or gained as a result.

I have presented well to my audience I tried to capture the audience’s attention by constantly looking up at the board and to the audience. I spoke clearly and didn’t rush through my presentation. I believed that I have gained more confidence speaking in front of my audience. As at the start of my presentation I was extremely nervous, my body language and eye contact could’ve been better the first run of my presentation. As a member of the audience I was quiet; engaged and respectful for the person at the front. A skill I used that was effective in my presentation was that I spoke clearly and was easy to understand the part in my presentation that went well in my presentation was that I kept my PowerPoint interesting by not reading everything off the board and I used my speaker notes these helped me as they gave me key points to read off so that I knew what to talk about. In my presentation that part that hadn’t gone well was that I had to stop and retry my presentation as my nerves had gotten the best the best of me; however I overcame the nerves and finished my presentation. I believe that my performance was a lot better the second time around as my nerves had gone and I was more confident I now knew what I was saying. The part of my presentation that I would’ve done differently would be that I’d be more confident in delivering my presentation and not stop half way through.

In my presentation I did not use a whiteboard, issues using whiteboard would be it would take long to write up any points or to draw images or diagrams. Also I believe it wouldn’t have been as interesting as an interactive PowerPoint. I used PowerPoint because the information appears automatically onto the screen. I can also add in other information into speaker notes so that the audience isn’t just reading the screen another point I can do on PowerPoint is that you can add animations and transitions.

To evaluate my presentation I believe that in the end everything went smoothly, I had a couple of hurdles along the way but I overcame them and ended up giving a well-spoken and delivered presentation. I also now believe that after completing my presentation that can could successfully present a presentation without stopping and let my nerves get the best of me. I believe that my verbal communication skills have been enhanced after completing this task.
